SYSTEM PARAMETERS
SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
The AN/FRC-170 is a general purpose radio set which utilizes

Power: 0.1 - 5.0 W
several various aperture type antennas for line-of-sight (LOS) or

troposcatter communications. The antennas are normally mounted
on towers.
HAZARD CONTROLS (to reduce or eliminate risk)
SYSTEM HAZARDS
Power Density Levels (PDL) ....
This system, under certain configurations, is able to produce potentially hazardous PDLs
in excess of the safety standard. Direct the antenna main beam away from occupied
structures. Establish a Nonionizing Radiation Protection Program (IAW guidelines
provided in this TB) .
Open/cracked waveguides .......
All open waveguides and loose or open flanges produce potentially hazardous PDLs
within close proximity of the break. Exclude personnel from these areas and do not
permit operation of this system with any cracked, broken or open waveguide.

Consult the equipment Technical Manual for other operator and/or maintenance hazards.
